Network Services
DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and mail — the application-layer services that make a working network actually useful, in depth.
What you'll actually learn
DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and mail are the services that make "the network" actually do something for the people using it — and they're also where most real outages live, because a working link between two routers means nothing if the DNS server behind it is misconfigured or the DHCP pool just ran out of leases. This track sets up and breaks each of these services deliberately, so you learn them by what happens when they fail, not just what they're supposed to do when they work.
What you'll be able to do
You'll diagnose a machine that "can't reach the internet" and correctly figure out whether it's actually a DNS problem, a DHCP problem, or something else entirely — instead of restarting the router and hoping. That specific triage skill, applied under real time pressure, is most of what an early network or sysadmin role actually consists of day to day.
