Storage: The Foundations
How data actually lives on a disk, and how to reason about redundancy, backups, and capacity before you ever touch Linux-specific tools.
What you'll actually learn
Before touching any Linux-specific tool, this track covers how data actually lives on a disk and why redundancy and backups aren't the same thing — RAID protects you from a drive failing at 3am, a backup protects you from a mistake you made yourself, and confusing the two is how real data gets lost. You'll build the mental model for capacity planning and failure tolerance that every storage tool afterward assumes you already have.
What you'll be able to do
Given a storage requirement — how much space, how much redundancy, how fast it needs to recover from a failure — you'll be able to reason about which approach actually fits, instead of defaulting to "just add more disks." That judgment is what separates configuring storage from actually understanding it.
